Student hospitalized after Wednesday fight

A Santa Clara student was hospitalized Wednesday night after being attacked at an off-campus party near the corner of Bellomy and Lafayette Streets, police said.

Santa Clara police arrested two men on suspicion of assault at 1 a.m. Thursday following the fight, said Lt. Mike Sellers, a police spokesman.

Just before midnight Wednesday, the Santa Clara student and two men started fighting over the student's ex-girlfriend at the party, police said. The two men punched the male student repeatedly, then kicked him several times in the head after he fell to the ground, Sellers said.

The victim sustained numerous injuries, including a laceration above his right eye that required stitches, a broken left finger and bruising on the back of his head and right side of his forehead, Sellers said.

He was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center for treatment, according to Campus Safety.

Police located two suspects in the parking lot at 7-Eleven, 281 Washington St., Sellers said. They were held until officers took the victim to the location, where he identified both suspects, police said.

Police arrested Ahmad Wali Mohmand, 19, and Yama Zamir, 21, on suspicion of assault and booked them into Santa Clara County jail just before 1 a.m. last Thursday, Sellers said.

Both men are Fremont residents unaffiliated with the university, and had been visiting a Santa Clara student that night, said Sellers.
