Ultimate Sound
By Lizet LLamas
The new freestyle sound is somewhat of a disappointment for old school freestyle fans. There is not enough new material out there, and the majority of what is out on the market does not represent the original freestyle sound. This has turned me, as well as other original freestyle fans, to the likes of hard house, electronica and techno.
On the other hand, there are a few freestyle compilations that hold true to the original freestyle sound.
My favorite is Freestyle Greatest Beats: The Complete Collection (Tommy Boy/Timber). I own this compilation because it features classic freestyle sounds that even I had forgotten about.
The compilation consists of 10 volumes of original freestyle sound. It also includes pictures and biographies of the artists (just in case you don't remember the history behind the music).
This compilation features all the great names of freestyle such as Lil Suzy, Trinere, TKA, Cynthia, Sweet Sensation, George Lamond, Lissette Melendez, the Cover Girls and Johnny O
.Volume 10 is unique because it features the Ãnewà freestyle sound. This volume contains artists such as Planet Soul, Rhythmcentric, Jocelyn Enriquez as well as original freestylers Lissette Melendez, George Lamond, Cynthia and K7 of TKA.
On the subject of original artists, you'll be surprised to learn that artists such as Cynthia, Lil Suzy and Stevie B. have stayed in the freestyle market, while others have ventured to different musical genres. An example of this is George Lamond who is now in the salsa scene.
Freestyle has lost its spark, but compilations such as this one keep the fire burning.
