Volleyball stays undefeted in conference

On Saturday night, the Broncos beat the Dons for the 19th straight time, a streak dating back to 1989. Juniors Amy Kohl and Ynez Carrasco had 18 and 10 kills respectively as the Broncos rolled 15-7, 15-6, 15-9. The Broncos' defense held USF to a .119 hitting percentage.

The task wasn't as easy Friday when they battled American in a tense five game match. The Broncos finally prevailed in this non-conference showdown 15-7, 13-15, 15-2, 14-16, 15-11.Junior Brook Terhune led the way, posting a career-high 19 kills. Carrasco added 18 kills for the Broncos, and senior Laura Raybould had 16.

"We're playing some really good volleyball right now," Head Coach Jon Wallace said. "Our transition game is where it should be, and we're playing some really good, athletic defense. Once we get some players back and the offense starts to come around, we'll be in good shape."The Broncos find themselves tied for first in the WCC standings with long-time conference power Pepperdine. That may be challenged this weekend, as Santa Clara embarks on a road trip to Saint Mary's and San Diego. The team has not fared well on the road this season, posting only a 1-4 record, as opposed to 6-1 at home and 6-0 at neutral sites.

"This is going to be a tough road trip," Wallace said. "I'm a little worried, because both of these teams are playing some good volleyball and are tough at home."
