When the NCAA announced a few changes for this year's NCAA Tournament, I acted like any rational college basketball fan would: I became instantly cynical. In my eyes, you don't fix what ain't broken, especially when the thing that ain't broken happens to be the most exciting and highly anticipated sporting event of the entire year.

For the women's club rugby team, a lack of transparency on campus has failed to extinguish their drive. The Bronco Rugby Union Women's Side (BRUWS) remains unfazed since they are headed to playoffs with a division leading 6-1 record this season.

As guard Kevin Foster lifted up his tournament MVP trophy Wednesday night, his smile said it all.

Santa Clara capped off its unpredictable season with an inspiring 76-69 win over Iona College to be crowned the CollegeInsider.com Tournament Champions.

Cal has been known to have one of the best baseball teams around for years and this season should be no exception. In late January the team was ranked No. 17 in the nation. In October, the 2010 recruitment class was ranked No. 11 in the nation. With statistics like this, it makes one wonder why Berkeley is letting baseball go without a strong fight.

Living up to last year's accomplishments will not be an easy task for Santa Clara. After a record breaking 18-7 season capped by an appearance in the West Coast Conference Finals, the men's tennis team plans to continue building on last year's ground-breaking success.

Since 2008, Henzi has attended every Santa Clara baseball game. He sits behind the backstop at Stephen Schott Stadium, to the right of home plate. He knows every player by name. He knows which ones are Giants enthusiasts and works hard to forgive the Dodgers aficionados.

Forget the blissful times of watching the cheeseheads take the SuperBowl and cross your fingers in hopes that the NFL might actually take place next season; the potential NFL lockout is upon us.

Rebuilding is not always an easy task. The women's basketball team is recovering well after finishing last year with a record of 5-27 overall and 1-13 in West Coast Conference.

Right when it appeared that Santa Clara was down for the count in their second straight game, the Broncos dug down to overcome a 20-point deficit, landing them a much needed 60-56 victory over the University of San Diego.

With a 7-6 victory over No. 7 Oregon last Sunday, the men's club lacrosse team instantly lent credibility to their claim as one of the top contenders for this year's West Coast Lacrosse League title.

All is perfect for the women's tennis team; at least in terms of wins. With a 4-3 win against conference rival University of San Francisco last Friday, followed by a victory over University of Pacific,  Santa Clara has catapulted themselves to a 6-0 record (1-0 in conference play) early in the season.

I have to admit that although I enjoy sitting down with a hot dog and soda in hand to watch the Super Bowl, I almost find the commercials to be even more entertaining than the game - I know I am not the only one out there.

Santa Clara faced off against some of the top teams in the nation at the San Jose Spartan Invite last weekend. The Broncos went up against No. 9 San Jose State University and No. 19 University of Pacific on Saturday before playing No. 3 Cal and No. 13 UC Davis to wrap up the schedule. After falling in the opener against the Spartans 10-5, Santa Clara was unable to upset any of the three remaining teams, losing 16-4, 11-2 and 13-8 respectively.

Basketball is a team sport, and against the Zags, the Broncos played as a team. Dowdell and Payne took control of guiding the team's unification, bringing energy and hustle onto the court. Kevin Foster is a star and a team leader, but all leaders need their sidekicks.Dowdell and Payne take it upon themselves to do what is necessary to win against any given team; they are able to adjust.

In a campus-wide survey that is being conducted for the entire month of January, 390 (76%) have voted in favor of turf while 123 (24%) opposed the proposal.

The motion calls to completely convert the current field into synthetic turf while leaving the existing softball area alone. Along with changing a majority of the field, additional field lights would be installed in the left-most quadrant of the field, which would allow for additional nighttime usage.
